Pasadena-Area Black and Latino Families Invited to Oct. 5 Independent School Admissions Outreach Night

Pasadena’s Chandler School and Flintridge Prep co-host a school fair, student panel and sessions on the application process and financial aid for families considering private schools

Black and Latino families in Pasadena and across the San Gabriel Valley who are considering independent schools for their children can meet admissions representatives from more than 20 private schools, many of them Pasadena campuses, at an outreach evening Monday, Oct. 5, co-hosted by Pasadena’s Chandler School and Flintridge Preparatory School.

The San Gabriel Valley and Pasadena Area Black and Latinx Admissions Outreach Event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flintridge Prep, 4543 Crown Ave., in neighboring La Cañada Flintridge. The event is intended to support Black and Latino families exploring independent school options, organizers said in an announcement, and will include a school fair, remarks from heads of school, a student panel and breakout sessions on the application process and financial aid.

Families will hear directly from students and parents and learn more about the admissions application process and financial aid opportunities, organizers said.

Chandler, a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school at 1005 Armada Drive in Pasadena, is one of the two co-hosts. Pasadena schools on the participant list include Polytechnic School, Westridge School, Mayfield Junior School of the Holy Child Jesus, Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, Sequoyah School, The Waverly School, Maranatha High School, La Salle College Preparatory and High Point Academy. EF Academy and the International School of Los Angeles also operate Pasadena campuses. Saint Mark’s School in Altadena is also participating, as is Stratford School, which has a campus in Altadena.

In addition to Chandler and Flintridge Prep, the schools listed as participants are Alverno Heights Academy, Barnhart School, Clairbourn School, Crestview Preparatory School, Flintridge Sacred Heart, EF Academy, High Point Academy, Immaculate Heart, International School of Los Angeles — Lycée International, La Salle College Preparatory, Loyola High School of Los Angeles, Maranatha High School, Mayfield Junior School of the Holy Child Jesus, Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, Polytechnic School, Saint Mark’s School, Sequoyah School, Stratford School, St. Francis High School, The Waverly School, The Webb Schools and Westridge School.

Doors open at 6 p.m., when the school fair begins. The fair includes schools serving kindergarten through eighth grade, grades nine through 12, and grades seven through 12. A parent connection hub will be open during the fair, and light refreshments will be served. The fair runs until 6:55 p.m.

Heads of school will give welcome remarks, followed by a student panel, from 7 to 7:20 p.m.

Two breakout sessions follow, from 7:25 to 7:40 p.m. and from 7:45 to 8 p.m. The same two topics — how to prepare for the application process and how to apply for financial aid — are offered in each session, with a focus on grades kindergarten through 12.
