Vroman’s Summer Sale Reaches Final Day Sunday in Pasadena’s Playhouse Village

Vroman’s Bookstore will hold the closing day of its summer sale on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at its store at 695 East Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, according to the Playhouse Village Association’s community events calendar.
The sale is listed as running Saturday, July 25 through Sunday, August 2, with daily hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, is the final day. Admission is free and purchases are optional, and the calendar lists the event as an in‑person activity in the store’s Playhouse Village neighborhood, the arts and retail district along East Colorado Boulevard in central Pasadena.
The event listing describes the sale as offering discounted books, gifts and selected store merchandise. According to a statement from the store posted on the district calendar, the sale is located upstairs in the Vroman’s Event Space. The store’s statement also notes that all sales are final and that the sale discounts may not be combined with other discounts. The calendar listing does not specify the percentage amounts of the markdowns for the 2026 sale.
Vroman’s Bookstore was founded in 1894 by Adam Clark Vroman, who, according to the store, moved to Pasadena in the late 1800s and later opened the bookstore. The business remains an independent bookseller owned by the Sheldon family, which announced in January 2024 that it was seeking a buyer for the store. The store’s building at 695 East Colorado Boulevard was sold to GD Realty Group in October 2025, and Vroman’s signed a long‑term lease to remain at the location, according to reporting by Pasadena Now and The Real Deal. The store describes itself as the oldest and largest independent bookstore in Southern California.
The store’s Pasadena location anchors the Playhouse Village district and hosts frequent author events. The Playhouse Village Association calendar lists several author talks and signings at the store in the days following the sale, including events on August 5, August 7 and August 8, as well as a summer reading program celebration listed for August 8. Those events, like the sale, are listed as free and in‑person.
The bookstore can be reached at (626) 449‑5320. Event information published on the Playhouse Village Association calendar is provided as a public service and, per the association’s notice, is subject to change; the association advises confirming details directly with the event organizer.
