An email from NBBA says that 20 volunteers have signed up, and they need 20 more.  Volunteers will meet at the First Presbyterian Church of Altadena on Feb. 1 for orientation and training, followed by a quick lunch, and then be deployed to their assigned block for two hours in the afternon.

Justin Robertson, who is an M.A. candidate in urban planning at UCLA, will discuss his plan to conduct a study of walkability in Altadena.

According to a release from NBBA, the group will be working with Robertson to conduct a “walkability audit,” to gather information about options, existing conditions, and best practices ” for stimulating retail vitality through pedestrian-friendly improvements.”  The audit will focus on the Lincoln Avenue and Lake Avenue business corridors.   NBBA will be recruiting volunteers to help with the effort early next year.

NBBA’s email describes the day as : “One Saturday.  Five hours.  A yummy lunch.  Great community-minded people and new friends.  A project of possibilities!”

E-mail mail@buildingabetteraltadena.org or phone and leave a message fat 626-344-7806 if you would like to volunteer.  Be sure to leave your name and phone number.
