The community comes together at Art on Millionaire’s Row

It started four years ago as an ambitious way to raise funds to support our local libraries, and has grown into an annual event with the atmosphere of a community street fair. Art on Millionaire’s Row at the Altadena Library on Saturday combined a juried fine art show with booths filled with local arts, crafts, and food.
The ladies of the Friends of the Altadena Library were there, with a table full of used books (only $1 each!), the Altadena Town Council set up a voting booth at the entrance, and The Altadena Arts Council had photos and information about its programs. There were about 45 booths with fine artists and craftsmen in wood, ceramics, jewelry, and textiles. And food, from authentic New Orleans Pralines and Louisiana sausages to Mexican fare and Asian tea.
Music filled the air in the salon and the outdoor area. The slideshow captures the flavor of the day. Enjoy!

8 Mota’s Mexican Restaurant and Catering served burritos and tacos.
9 Potter and illustrator Rowan D. Harrison forms his ceramics by hand using the coiling method rather than a potter’s wheel. His hand painted designs reflect his Native American heritage.
10 Karen Hovanitz of Florecita Farm Designs makes pots from tiny to large and plants them with succulents which she grows in her backyard. She is an avid reader of Altadenablog.
11 Artist Kathleen Swaydan displayed her gentle watercolors and handcrafted cards.
12 The ladies of the Friends of the Altadena Library were on hand to chat with patrons and sell books and T-shirts.
13 A skirt of diaphanous scarves was created by Paula Gallemore.
14 Cool Jazz with Ahmed was one of the performers at the outdoor fair.
