by Timothy Rutt With drumming, color, and pageantry, Rhythms of the Village, a new shop dealing in African diaspora arts, held its grand opening Saturday afternoon. The opening was marked by African drumming and an invocation from Rev. C. Eiokwu Washington, who called forth the ancestors, in this case men and women of African descent who started successful businesses in the past. The event also featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony from the Altadena Chamber of Commerce. More pictures, and video, after the jump. 

 

 

 

 

Rev. Washington uses bottled water for libations to call forth the ancestors for good fortune; African drumming livened up Lake Avenue in the afternoon; Chukawara and Meyers share a moment as the shop is welcomed to Altadena; the colorful clothing and accessories make up just some of the merchandise at Rhythms of the Village.
