Received a note from town councilor Michele Zack:
In a follow-up email she said: "I just got my latest National Geographic and there’s an interesting page on the topic of rabies. It says 50,000 people around the world die from rabies, due mostly to dogs. In the United States, however, the main perpetrators of 40,000 bite victims are raccoons and skunks. Bats are making something of a comeback, too. Most rabies problems in the U.S. occur all the way up eastern portion of our country but enough occur here to alert people to the facts, such as the 6-shot regimen that counters the virus."
In a word, please don'e leave pet food out to feed the wild and feral creatures — it just brings them closer to our environment, and nothing good can come of that!

Not only do wild animals come closer, the stuff that’s in pet food is really not conducive to health in ANY animal. Just as humans are becoming ill from what they ingest, their pets are as well. Ever wonder why pets have “human dis-eases?” Same reason we do. Diabetes 2, heart disease, high blood pressure… and so MANY more diseases can by cured by a change in lifestyle, especially with what we put in our bodies. So, we poison our pets with bad food and we extend that out to the wild critters by leaving the food out, then we have to kill the critters because they’re sickened by what we feed them. Start with the cause… stop feeding the critters poor quality food ~ meaning anything in a can. It’s not natural. The wildlife will take care of themselves if we stop poisoning them.
