The Peace & Justice Academy is inviting its neighbors to stop in and say hello next weekend in kind of a house-warming party at its new home.
The private 6th-10th grade school follows the principals of the Mennonites, one of the historic Christian peace churches, and admits students of all faiths. They recently moved into the Arches complex at St. James United Methodist Church, 2033 E. Washington Blvd. along the border (i.e. it has a Pasadena address but is actually in Altadena).
The school will throw open its doors on Sat., May 26, from 1-5 PM, offering tours, food, entertainment, a cake raffle, and local businesses and nonprofits sharing inforation.
Harambee Ministries, Pasadena General Assembly, Union Station, Bread for the World, California Interfaith Power & Light, Pasadena Pride, and10,000 Villages will have information. Food will be provided by Mijares, Domenico’s, Egg Roll Express and Café Culture. The cake raffle features cakes from Anna’s Cake House, Patticakes, Ellen Snortland’s Norwegian Crown Cakes, and Von’s Grocery plus some homemade ones from parents and friends of PAJA.
Our gold level sponsors include David Brock Realtor and Altadena Energy and Solar. Silver sponsors are Custom Comfort Mattress Store, Café Culture, Viva Driving School, and House of Basturma.
Entertainment will provided by the talented musicians of the Pasadena Youth Community Orchestra, under the direction of Camille Barnes; alternative country recording artist Murry Hammond; fire eaters; an Aikido self-defense demonstration from We Defend and PAJA’s own boy band, with more to come.
