The Pasadena Police Department, which earlier this year blocked public access to its radio communications, hopes by the end of the month to roll out two ways for residents to track law enforcement activity.
Authorities will post basic information about all calls for service — including time, location and nature of all police calls – on the city’s website, according to City Manager Michael Beck.
“Anyone can look at it and it will be automatically updated twice a day,” at 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., Beck said.
Officials also may allow the public to listen to initial calls for service before the department encrypts subsequent communications, such as radio chatter between law enforcement officials about response and logistics.
“You’ll know the call happened, but won’t know the disposition,” Beck said.
Lt. Phlunte Riddle said technical hurdles have led to delays in allowing the public to hear the initial calls. A test last month failed, Riddle said, and staffers are trying to work out the bugs.
