Not much support for parcel tax at ATC/PUSD joint meeting last night

We were unable to get to the start of last night’s joint meeting of the Altadena Town Council and the Pasadena Unified School District board, but Brian Charles of PSN has already filed the story we were going to do — not a lot of support for a new parcel tax to make up declining school district revenues.

However, we stuck for the rest of the meeting, after the PUSD board and PSN went home:

  • Middleton in: After applying for the position, Greg Middleton was sworn in as the new councilman for CT4602, to complete the term of resigned councilman Herbert Simmons.
  • Trash service: Now it looks like there won’t be town-wide trash collection in place until the end of this year.  Chairman Gino Sund said that the county has married Altadena and Kinneloa Mesa together into any trash service proposal, and the latter, which features several horse properties, wanted manure collection included in any agreement. Requests for proposal to potential vendors will not even go out until mid-March.
  • Cell tower: A potential cell tower at Fair Oaks and Loma Alta is still on hold.  An alternate location, on county property in the wash behind Loma Alta Park, is still a potential replacement, but nobody’s made a move on it yet.
  • Chamber dinner: Altadena Chamber of Commerce board member Ben McGinty said that RSVPs had to be in by Fri., Jan. 22, for the Jan. 29 annual Chamber dinner, honoring citizens of the year C. Jake and “Mr. T” Truman.
  • Mailboxes: Councilman Phil Barela encouraged residents to write the Altadena Postmaster about the removal of the blue mailboxes on the east side in recent months (there used to be three within a 20 minute walk of Altadenablog headquarters, and now there are none!)
  • MonteCedro: Councilman Allan Wasserman said that he had been in contact with the Episcopal Home Communities, who assured him that the MonteCedro retirement community planned west of Lake is still alive.  Wasserman said that, nonetheless, he would like to see some groundbreaking on the vacant site.
  • Lincoln Crossing: It was announced that county planners are looking to hear from residents about a proposal by the developer to cut 25 planned parking places from the Lincoln Crossing shopping center.  There will be a public meeting in downtown Los Angeles on Feb. 10, but they are urging residents to call Anita Gutierrez at the county planning office, 213-974-6443.
  • Declaration: The board declared January “Scholars’ Month,” in honor of the Bright Futures Scholars, several of whom attended the meeting.
