- Occasional Altadenan Johnny Otis (who performed “Willie and the Hand Jive”) died Tuesday at age 90. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, Otis discovered Little Richard, Jackie Wilson, Etta James, and others. The LA Times has an appreciation.

Morning jolt [Johnny Otis Update]

- Altadena-based Health Nuts Media is partnering with Skylight Healthcare Systems to provide pediatric patient education content that will be available to patients and families in pediatric hospitals. Health Nuts Media takes complicated health concepts and frames them in a fashion that children find interesting, informative, and fun. More at Marketwatch.
- The La Crescenta Valley Sun has a review of the kickoff dinner for Pinotfest at the Altadena Town & Country Club. Someday, we’ll go to things like that …
- For anyone that’s interested in PUSD’s Spanish or Mandarin-immersion programs, there’s a free screening next Tuesday, 1/24, of the documentary “Speaking in Tongues” from 6:30-8:30 at the Pasadena Central Library. Volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions that prospective parents may have. The enrollment period ends February 1st.
