The Fork in the Road Gang is hosting a daylong fundraiser and canned food drive for Union Station tomorrow, March 7 — but it won’t be at the Fork this time. “Put the Fork in Hunger” will collect canned food at the Eden Garden Restaurant on Holly Street in Old Pasadena between 8 AM and 6 PM, followed by a fundraiser in the restaurant. Tickets for this special event including Mediterranean dishes, desserts and special live entertainment from just-released bands, are $25. Purchase tickets here (space is limited, and you are encouraged to purchase in advance) . If you can’t make it to the restaurant, Webster’s FIne Stationers (2450 N. Lake Ave.) is collecting locally.
Speaking of Webster’s, mark your calendar: Fancy Food Truck Fridays returns on Fri., April 13! Trucks will be announced later.
We got a call from Alexander Buickians, who has recently opened the Next Door Café at 1174 N. Lake Ave. in Pasadena. It’s a new business that serves breakfast burritos, “continental food” and a variety of coffee drinks — they have wi-fi, too. Hours are 7 AM-7 PM, and will soon be open until 8 PM. “City Speaks” is a “sculptural poetry/sonic installation” by Altadena-based New Town that will go live at 1199 S. Fair Oaks Ave., starting March 10. Don Kingfisher Campbell (a frequent guest at Altadena Library poetry events) will join fellow poets Matthew Shenoda and Kathabela Wilson, with sculptor Alessandro Thompson and sound designer Rima Snyder. Description: “City Speaks brings together the talents of three Pasadena poets, a concrete ghost of a Morris Chair and an ambient sonic environment to create a contemplative al fresco living room, inviting you to sit a spell, relax in dappled shade and enjoy poetic reflections on the Crown City of the San Gabriel Valley.” The installation will be open daily through June, 2013.
