Morning jolt, audio/visual edition

  • Technology and celebrities:  OK, it’s a long walk for this one:  Harry Shum, Jr. is the incredibly limber dancer and actor who plays Mike Chang on “Glee.”  In the past few days, he’s been asking his followers for advice on what color of Google Glass to get because he’s in the “Google Explorer” program.  Finally decided on grey. And somebody named “kothelegend” spotted him wearing them at the Altadena Library
  • Flyin’ lineman: The Edison helicopters have been overactive all last week and during the weekend as crews string up new lines in the forest.  Jeremiah Small has put a video of one lineman’s helicopter commute up on Youtube.
  • ESL mentor: Wonderful volunteer opportunity!  Any adult who speaks English fluently and can volunteer 4-10 hours a week is welcome.  Become a caring teacher and mentor to a small group of non-English speaking adults who want to communicate more effectively.  Training for San Gabriel Valley Literacy Council ESL classes is on Saturdays, September 14th and 28th from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. You must attend both sessions to volunteer in a San Gabriel Valley Literacy Council classroom. $25 covers training, lunch, and council membership. After watching Jeremiah Small’s video on YouTube, I believe it just might be the world’s most exciting commute. Workers come and go from the top of the transmission tower like Spider Man. This *must* be a rush.
