Heartbreaking to loose a pet – there are no off leash areas in Altadena – US Forest Service land requires dogs on leashes at all times

A sad reminder to obey leash laws. EVERY time we hike people have their dogs off leash which is not only dangerous to the dogs, but also the local wildlife.

I am happy that your beloved dogs are back. Now, please leash them while on the trail. It is safer for the dogs and wildlife [were they chasing something? Did they kill it? They are dogs, it is their nature.] It is also a courtesy to those who share the trail. Yes, I am a dog lover and sometimes owner.

The huskies were found and I called the owners and they have them back now!

Michele Zack (who keeps getting thrown off — don’t know why!) writes:

I can’t say how many times I seen or directly experienced out of control dog behavior — then wait for the owner to say “OH!! he/she has never done that before!” David said they’ve never run off before in his initial post, but then mentions that this is the second time the Blog has helped him find them. One dog is only 8 months old, so it HAS happened before, and sounds like not that long ago if it is same dog. Leashes and microchips, please, and while I’m at it, please clean up after your dog. At certain time of year, the Sam Merrill really stinks at certain points, I guess they like to all go at the same spots. I never understand why some dog owners think the rules devised for everyone’s benefit, as well as our environment, simply don’t apply to them.

Thanks to the husky finder, who took them to Altadena’s Vanderhoof Veterinary Hospital to see if they knew the dogs, who had no id on them. I got a wake-up call from Sandy at Vanderhoof’s to see if they were my (husky) dogs. But then she realized, as we spoke, that the found huskies were not chipped, and of course, all my dogs are chipped. I suggested that a quick query/post to Altadenablog might put owner/dogs back together.

Glad to see it worked.

Btw, local readers don’t need to be reminded to get your pets microchipped – and to keep your dogs, *especially* huskies, on leash.

Sure, you can own a pet, but please do so responsibly!
