Meet at Pleasantridge Drive and Rubio Vista Drive in Altadena at 9 a.m. Sat., Sept. 17 for a hike along the former route of the Mount Lowe Railway in Rubio Canyon. Learn about the history of the railway, which brought Angelenos to popular resorts on Mount Lowe and Echo Mountain at the turn of the 19th century.
The trail is about a mile each way. The hike is demanding at points, with several high narrow steps near a sheer drop and a scramble over rocks in the creek near the end.
