And in this age of looping and rapping — really just circular rhythms and changing textures — they’re far more interesting to me.”

Huh. I think I once knew Ian Whitcomb lived in Altadena, but I forgot. He made one of my favorite versions of “Louie Louie” as a jazz trio arrangement. I suppose if I made any sort of effort, I could meet him and get an autograph. Back to point, take the time to hear his 1964 cover (it’s available as an Amazon mp3) and you won’t be disappointed.
