Helen Berbarian, assistant to Supervisor Michael Antonovich, said of this program:

Basically, TSE is stimulus-funded temporary employment.  Based upon circumstances, the subsidy can cover up to 100% of the temporary employees wages.    More often than not though, the funding covers 80% of the wages and the employer is required to contribute 20%.  The hope is that, by the time the stimulus dollars dry up, the economy will be better and the employees will become permanent, paid 100% by their employers.  The temp agency administering the stimulus dollars on the County’s behalf is the South Bay Workforce Investment Board.
In a report by our CEO dated 2/1/10, we were informed that the TSE program has enrolled 4,022 participants between 4/27/09 and 1/13/10, 1,058 of whom have been placed at 170 County work sites as temporary employees.  The initiative will continue through September 30, 2010.
