The New York Times has an obituary of astronomer Halton C. Arp, who died Dec. 28 in Munich, Germany. Arp, a former Altadena resident, along with Fred Hoyle, challenged the emerging “Big Bang” theory of the universe in favor of “Steady State” cosmology.
Michele Zack writes:
Chip Arp lived in Altadena for years, up at the Nightengale estate. A Big Bang denier who was in turn denied telescope time because of his refusal to drop investigations of unorthodox views, he was a true and great Altadenan. HIs daughter Kristana is one of my best friends, we both graduated from John Muir in 1969 (back when everyone sent their kids to public school!)
i’m crying with peine the death of the greatest astronomer of our time Alberto Bolognesi
