A man wielding a hammer broke the front window of the Coffee Gallery as the shop opened Sunday morning.
According to the barista on duty, the morning barista was opening the shop at 2029 N. Lake Avenue at about 6:30 AM this morning when she saw a man running at her as though to attack. She unlocked the door to get inside and lock it behind her, when the man shattered one of the front windows with a hammer and shouted an obscenity that some witnesses said included a racial epithet.

How much do they need?

Amy’s Patio Cafe will also pledge $100.
As a non-business owner, I was wondering – does the landlord not have any responsibility for damages that occur which are not the fault of the lessee? What if the damage is from a wind storm? Or a leaky roof?
What about insurance?
I agree with SteveB… I will contribute, but first want to know “what happened to the insurance?”
Elliot Gold
That was my thought too, as someone who rented this would be in the landlord/insurance responsibility.
QLess will also contribute $100 if not covered by insurance and they still need money.
My understanding is that the insurance has a $1,000 deductible, and that the insurance does not cover expenses such as boarding up the window until it can be repaired.
Was the guy caught? How awful to think he’s still out there.
