Busy, busy Saturday

There was just too much to do yesterday — with the help of some of our community correspondants, we tried to capture some of it.  More after the jump.

Art on Millionaire’s Row

 

The Altadena Library’s annual “Art on Millionaire’s Row” arts and crafts show was a little slow, but there was much to see and do — and it was at the library, so there’s no excuse not to have a good time.

Sports

Yes, there’s been hockey and basketball to watch on TV, but the little league season is wrapping up — here, a surfeit of trophies wait to go home at the season-ender for the East Altadena Little League at Donley Field.

Upside-down T Neighborhood Block Party

Community correspondant Elliot Gold shares pictures from the Upside-Down-T Neighborhood Association,, which is home to about 50 residences on West Palm and La Corona.  The neighbors held their annual summer party, hosting and honoring the Altadena Sheriff’s Department. The Association erected a sign “In Appreciation of Our Sheriff’s Department”, and hosted all deputies on duty for dinner. Captain John Benedict spent well over an hour at the party talking with dozens of children, who asked him what it was like being a Sheriff. Capt. Benedict invited all deputies and sergeants on duty to swing by, to share in the honoring.

Relay for Life

The Altadena Relay for Life, the annual fundraiser and commemoration from the American Cancer Society, started at 9 AM Saturday and will go on for 24 hours as people walk in solidarity with those who have faced or are facing cancer.

The luminaria walk is one of the high points of the Relay.  Here, walkers activate lightsticks to remember the people in their lives who’ve faced cancer.

The luminaria walk was led for one lap by the Pasadena Scots bagpipe and drum corps.
