On Sun., May 2 between the 10 AM-4 PM, the Altadena Guild of Huntington Memorial Hospital Research Institute (HMRI) will host the 59th Annual Home Tour featuring four majestic estates located on Boulder Road.
Boulder Road remains one of Altadena’s most beloved theme streets, known for its boulder walls, lovely gardens and unique collection of English and Spanish revival homes… thus this year’s theme, “Altadena Rocks on Boulder Road”. The walking tour will feature two English and two Spanish Revival homes all built in the 1920’s. Musicians will perform throughout the day. Guild members will furnish spectacular flower arrangements to compliment the architecture and décor of each of the homes.
Complimentary dessert and beverages will be served in a lovely garden setting and a variety of vendors offering unique fine art, jewelry and pottery. Delicious homemade baked goods from Guild members will also be available for purchase.
The owners of the exquisite dwellings on this year’s tour have graciously agreed to open them for the Guild’s annual fund raiser which supports ongoing research and development of methods and applications of medical magnetic resonance, including (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS) in addition to new advances in the diagnosis and treatment of breast, colon and prostate cancer, stroke, heart disease, epilepsy, profound deafness, liver disease and cancer, migraine headache, sleep apnea and brain diseases including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
The Altadena Guild began its philanthropic alliance with HMRI in 1952 with the objective of obtaining new knowledge and technology to make tomorrow’s medicine better than the best we have today. HMRI is widely known for the development of the hydrocephalus shunt to treat “water-on-the-brain”, pioneering studies on biomedical application of laser energy, basic and applied cancer research.
