A great day for a parade

Rhythms of the Village Productions warms up before the 30th annual Black History Parade on Feb. 18, 2012, starting at Charles White Park in Altadena.

FirstIt was a perfect day for a parade with a cloudless sky, clear view to the mountains, and great weather — so it was a perfect day for the 30th annual Black History Parade, which started at Charles White Park this morning.

The parade goes down Fair Oaks to end at the festival at Robinson Park in Pasadena, and it pretty much seemed that every marching band, drill team, fraternal lodge or sorority was represented — as well as a wide variety of astonishing vehicles

Buffalosoldiers

The Buffalo Soliders, a standby at the Rose Parade, were there.  Rose Queen Drew Washington was also a special guest at the parade.

Wellsfargo

Parade co-sponsor Wells Fargo brought their wagon over.

Naacp

The Altadena NAACP was represented.

Renatta

Pasadena Unified School Board President Renatta Cooper rides with district superintendent Jon Gundry.

Mpyd

The young men of Mentoring and Partnership for Youth Development were there, with some of their mentors.

Steppin1

There was also an example of fancy fine steppin’.

Trickedbike

Among this year’s vehicles were some tricked out bicycles — you can’t see it in the picture, but it hops like a lowrider and the rims spin.
