Several roads within the Angeles National Forest will be closed this weekend, as county officials anticipate snow and icy road conditions as a result of a major storm expected to hit Friday night.
The closures will start at 5 a.m. Saturday on Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road from Angeles Crest Highway to Angeles Forest Highway and on Angeles Forest Highway from Aliso Canyon Road to Upper Big Tujunga Canyon.

We received some emails about mysterious lights toward the mountains last night (Wednesday).
Reader Joe Pagan, who lives around Morada and Lake, reports:
This evening I was sitting in my back yard & I saw this brighter than usual light through the clouds facing the mountains … At first I thought it might be the moon but the moon phase is half full.

We have no explanation for this mystery yet, but … let’s see what the Altadena hive mind can come up with!
Matt Wright took a photo of this mysterious object in his neighborhood on Tanoble Drive. He says that there appear to be offerings of colored stones and loose change around it.
Another neighbor reports that he saw a gathering of about 15 teens in various medieval costumes standing on the corner on Tuesday evening about 7:30 PM: ”

LItfest Pasadena, the area's first community wide book festival, has been rained out for this weekend.
LitFest organizers said that the forecast of heavy rain pushed their decision to reschedule the event, which was to take place at Pasadena's Central Park on Saturday.
The new date is Saturday, May 12, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM in Central Park.

- Ain home on Pasadena tour: Pasadena Heritage is holding its 2012 spring home tour on March 25, looking at American Modern style homes. Our friend historical architect William Ellinger said that a very special feature of the tour is one of the Park Planned Homes by Gregory Ain at the 2700 block of Highview Avenue. Tues., March 6
10:05 AM – A residential burglary occurred in the 2200 block of Galbreth Rd. The victim who was inside the residence called 9-1-1 after hearing voices in Spanish coming from inside the residence. Deputies responded to the area and were unable to locate the suspects.

Pasadena Police are looking for a investigating a critical missing adult.
Mark Fronerotta II, male, white, 20 years old 5-9, 160 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, medium complexion, clean shaven, last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and a black hooded sweat shirt.
Fronerotta is believes to be suffering from depression and takes medication daily. He was last seen on 2-28-12 at about 11:50 AM. in the 3000 block of E.

The Coffee Gallery coffeehouse and Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N. Lake, are celebrating their new Conditional Use Permit with a party tonight.
According to Justin Christman of the Coffee Gallery, the businesses that share the same address needed to raise about $15,000 to renew their conditional use permit with LA County.

The Eat Well Market — after a single appearance on Jan. 29 — may have shut down for good.
Market manager Aimee Silver said that the scheduled March 10 market has been cancelled and she’s in the process of notifying vendors, volunteers, and others.
“I’m gonna lose money on this,” she said. “There’s a lot more goes into putting on a market than people realize, and a lot goes into dismantling it.”

The Bob Lucas Branch Library, 2659 N. Lincoln Ave., which has been closed through February for remodeling, is scheduled to re-open March 16.
A library spokeswoman said that the extended closure is to allow extra time to install furniture, electrical changes, and the stacks, as well as accommodate final county inspections.

Altadena’s Patrick Gothard is March’s Artist of the Month at the Coffee Gallery:
A self-taught artist from the age of 13, Patrick has become a prolific painter. Once he has a vision on his mind, he cannot stop painting until the whole concept has been explored. His current medium is acrylic enamel paint on canvas. However, he has been known to paint on other surfaces such as old window frames and other found objects.

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich will introduce the public to new earthquake simulators at Eliot MIddle School on Mon., March 12.
Antonovich and Los Angeles Fire Chief Daryl Osby will introduce the new simulators for anyone who might be interested in seeing (or experiencing) new this new safety and education tool.

Rook is a returnee to the missing cat list — he went missing in December, and managed to find his way home, but he’s out again. Lara writes:
Rook is a brown shorthair cat with black stripes. He is an indoor cat who goes outside during the day but he always comes home at night. He did not come home on March 2nd, and so has been gone for three nights now.

Hundreds of John Muir High School students staged a walk-out protest on Monday in a show of support for Principal Sheryl Orange, following unconfirmed reports that she will be replaced next year.
As many 450 students joined the walkout after the school’s 12:30 PM.

Survival seemed to be the theme as the Altadena Town Council and the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education held their annual joint meeting Saturday, March 3.
“Survival” in that PUSD is going to suffer yet another round of budget cuts from the state, and board members expressed support for a series of measures designed to stem some of the pain,

The Institute of Domestic Technology has unveiled its roster of classes for March:
Sat., March 10: Foodcrafting 101: this full-day, hands-on workshop held in Altadena at an urban micro-dairy will set you on your way to making your own artisinal bread, cheese, jam and mustards from scratch. Your d.i.y. ambassadors/instructors will be some of the city’s finest food crafters. The workshop includes four, 1-hour foodcrafting sessions, a catered lunch and morning beverages.
