There will be a meeting at Jackson Elementary School tonight (Nov. 14) to present the county’s draft Environmental Impact Report for the proposed cleanup of the Devil’s Gate Reservoir.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works is holding a series of meetings to present the report, which looks at the county’s plan to remove sediment behind the Devil’s Gate Dam at Hahamongna Watershed Park.

The Pasadena Police Department has sent out an advisory to expect increased traffic around the Rose Bowl Friday night.
The UCLA Bruins will play the Washington Huskies at the Rose Bowl in a Friday night game, starting at 6 PM. Parking lots will open at noon, and police are expecting 50,000 spectators.
The Pasadena PD says to be prepared for increased vehicular traffic beginning at noon,

Farnsworth Park will be taking registrations for its annual winter camp, which runs from Dec. 23-Jan. 3, from 8 AM-6 PM.
For ages 6-13, the camp features arts and crafts, dancing, sports and games, hiking, movies, and more.

John Marshall Fundamental Secondary School was named one of MetLife Foundation and National Association of Secondary School Principal’s (NASSP) 2014 Breakthrough Schools for its strong academic success in the face of challenges that result from high student poverty rates.
The school will be officially recognized along with the eight other Breakthrough Schools at NASSP’s Ignite 2014 Conference in Dallas, TX, February 6-8.
Since 2007, the MetLife Foundation-NASSP Breakthrough Schools program has showcased middle level and high schools that are high achieving or have dramatically improved student achievement while serving large numbers of students who live in poverty.

- Hahamongna update: We didn’t have the horsepower to cover the meeting about the Devil’s Gate dam sediment clearing project Thursday, but PSN was there, and it sounded like local folks were not happy with the plan, a version of which will have 50 trucks an hour, six days a week, for five years, moving out sediment. It’s Halloween weekend (even tho’ the event won’t be until next Thursday), but the stores and parks are already in the mood. The Altadena searcha and rescue team was called out to find a missing ten year old boy Sunday, but the boy was later found uninjured at the Pasadena Best Buy.
According to a press release from the Altadena Sheriff Station, the boy’s mother called the station to report that the boy had left this house Sunday morning without permission and did not come home.

Although only thirteen years old, classical Spanish guitarist Olivia Chang has already received several awards including one from the White House! What’s her secret? Well, her father, James Chiang, is also a classical guitarist and instructor and has been tutoring her since she was seven. Olivia has performed at several venues throughout the Southland. On November 1 at 7 p.m. she will play several Spanish favorites as part of Altadena Library’s celebration “A Taste of Spain.” This event will also include flamenco dance by Jessica Pacheco and a talk by restaurant critic and food historian Richard Foss on the history of traditional food of Spain.

Southern California Edison (SCE) is advising customers to be aware of a telephone scam that demands immediate payment for allegedly past due electricity bills.
Imposters have been calling SCE customers telling them they must make immediate payment on past due bills or have their electric service disconnected. The callers are also demanding that payment be made through a prepaid cash card. Other forms of fraud involve customers being asked to purchase prepaid debit cards.

- Valor: Sheriff Lee Baca awarded 18 Valorious and Meretorious Conduct Medals to members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for outstanding heroism in the line of duty. Close to home, Mererotrious Conduct and lifesaving medals were give to the members of the Air 5 helicopter crew, rescuers from Montrose Search and Rescue, and deputies from Crescenta Valley for rescuing a victim whose truck plunged off the Angeles Crest Highway. The Altadena Sheriff’s Station is reporting that an vehicle vs. building collision occurred at about 4:40 Friday morning on Lake and Calavaras.
The notice comes as part of the Altadena Sheriff Station’s participation in a “Deputy for a Day” Twitter. The tweet from Deputy Marc R. Mrakich says:

This is bad: a newly adopted cat that just took off (we had a dog in the family that was adopted from Pasadena Humane, driven home, and slipped out of her collar during the walk from the car to the house and took off running — couldn’t really call her as she didn’t know her name yet! Was back in Pasadena Humane two days later, they recognized her and called. Whew!)
