One of the biggest online shopping days of the year is “Cyber Monday”. Cyber Monday is a marketing term for the Monday following Black Friday, created by companies to encourage people to shop online. Shopping online is an extremely convenient way to purchase your holiday gifts and the Altadena Sheriff’s Station wants you to remember safety tips while shopping online:

Los Angeles County sherifff’s deputies are working to resolve a barricaded suspect near the Ralphs Shopping Center in La Crescenta.
According to a release from the sheriff’s department, the incident began about 5 PM tonight. Currently, LASD crisis negotiators and Special Enforcement Bureau deputies are working with Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies to work on a peaceful resolution to the incident at the 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta.

 The City of Hope will hold its very first Community Science Festival on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1-4 PM.
Meet the scientists who are doing important research at the City of Hope, and take part in some hands-on science and get a chance to win prizes.
All ages are invited to the event.
City of Hope is at 1500 East Duarte Road in Duarte.

The Pasadena Police Department is currently searching for a missing Monrovia woman, Chelsea McGuire 21 years of age. She was reported missing by Monrovia Police but was last known to be in Pasadena.
Chelsea McGuire was last seen on November 30, 2013 at about 10:00 A.M., in the 200 block of South El Molino Ave., while visiting family. Chelsea McGuire resides in Monrovia and is familiar with the San Gabriel Valley.

Webster’s Fine Wines & Liquors, 2450 N. Lake Avenue, suffered a break-in this morning.
According to deputies at the Altadena Sheriff Station, the front door was discovered broken early this morning before business hours, and they are unsure if an alarm was sounded or not.
Meredith Miller, who owns Webster’s Community Pharmacy next door, said that alcohol and cigarettes were taken. The pharmacy, which is separated from the liquor store at night by an internal security gate,

With all votes counted, newcomer Meredith McKenzie and incumbent David Tuck have been elected to the Altadena Library District Board of Trustees in today’s election.
Final tally, according to LA County’s election website with all 13 precincts reporting, is 1,129 for McKenzie, and 1,041 for Tuck. Former board member Steven S. Lamb received 553 votes.
In the Pasadena Community College District Trustee Area 1 race, which includes west Altadena, 23 of 24 precincts are reporting.

We lost our dog Monday night, the 4th and have yet to find her. We live on Valencia between Washington and Altadena Drive.
Misty is her name, she is a 9 year old.yellow lab with light eyes. She has a pink and green camouflage collar with her name and Idaho tags for her license.

“Come to a Fiesta” was the theme of Altadena-Pasadena Soroptimists’ Silent Auction this year, held on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Altadena Senior Center. Soroptimist members decked out the venue with colorful sombreros and other south-of-the border décor.

Robert Frank did not start out to be an interior designer.
“I initially started doing work for myself,” Frank said, “because I would buy houses and flip them.” He found that he had a particular affinity with kitchen and bath design.
“Doing a whole house is a good foundation for my knowledge base,” Frank said,but he enjoyed the challenges involved with rooms that required plumbing.

Aveson Charter Schools will have a ribbon-cutting and open house for its new campus on Nov. 16 at 2 PM.

The bad guys already have a network; as for the good guys, Altadena’s sheriff captain says, “We need a better network.”
Capt. John S. Benedict told Tuesday’s meeting of the Altadena Coalition of Neighborhood Associations that local gang members — when they’re not shooting at each other — will sometimes form alliances to prey on communities that they feel are ripe for the plucking.

The Altadena Ale & Wine House will host a wine and beer tasting on Sunday, Nov. 10, as a fundraiser for South Pasadena’s entry into the  Rose Parade.
The tasting starts at 4 PM, and costs $25. All proceeds to go the South Pasadena float building organization.

Since late October, Southern California Edison has owned Lake Avenue along Altadena’s business district, funnelling traffic into two lanes and eliminating long stretches of street parking.
And it may go on for awhile.
Edison is removing and replacing an aging underground electircal vault in the street in front of the Bank of America, which has turned Lake Avenue into a zone of cones,

Pasadena High School and John Muir High School in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) will meet in the Turkey Tussle football game Friday, November 8 at the Rose Bowl. Muir leads PHS in the series 40-17 with 2 ties. The winner of the game will ring and take possession of “The Bell” for the upcoming year. The game also is the centerpiece of homecoming activities for both schools.

An old fashioned hootenanny in the barn (or a corrogated steel garage) attracted about 40 people for an Arroyo Food Co-op fundraiser Friday night. One college student died after a recreational accident in the Angeles National Forest Monday.
According to a release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a group of 13 students were hiking near Hermit Falls on Monday, Nov. 11.  Hikers to this area frequently jump from rocks into the pools below.  According to the release, the group was jumping into the water.  The victim, who was the sixth person to jump,

Gobble gobble! The Pasadena Senior Center will continue its Thanksgiving tradition this year by offering a turkey feast with all the trimmings to members as well as non-members Thursday, Nov. 28, at noon.
They’ll even do all the cooking and cleanup, so all you have to do is come!
