The board of Pasadena Community College, which had planned on meeting in Altadena tonight, will instead meet at their regular site in Pasadena.

A press release from PCC said that, instead of the “listening” type of board meeting they envisioned, they will instead hold its regular business meeting at 7 PM tonight at Creveling Lounge on the PCC campus.

The Altadena station of the California Highway Patrol is participating in “Tip a CHP” tonight at El Cholo Café in the Pasadena Paseo mall on Colorado Boulevard.

CHP officers will be your servers, and tips will go to help the Pasadena Special Olympics.  “Tip-a-CHP” will go from 5-9 PM tonight.

One of our readers called Wednesday to report a burglary at their home on Altadena Drive near the intersection with North Holliston Avenue.  At the time of the call (yes, the sheriff had been notified), they noticed a laptop and some other items were missing.  Most disturbing, the house wasn’t empty — the family’s teenager was taking a nap in the house at the time (sometime between 11:15 AM-12:15 PM).  

The Altadena Chamber of Commerce’s “Fireworks and Food Truck” event is a great way to enjoy one of Altadena’s community events and support a good cause at the same time.

Getting some sketchy information about an incident this afternoon: according to the watch commander at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's station, the sheriff's bomb squad was called in to an Altadena location to deal with some suspicious-looking materials.

According to the watch commander,

We are traveling to Sacramento and back today, so entries will be light.  

All proceeds from admission ($5), raffle tickets, and food and drink sales will benefit the Brandon Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund, providing college scholarships to deserving local youth.

Amateur astronomer Helen Mahoney will discuss her list of the Top 20 Things Every Astronomer Should See at the Altadena Main Library on Sat., June 23, starting at 2 PM.  The  presentation is sponsored by Friends of Mt. Basketball players mix it up at La Salle High School’s gym Saturday during the Brandon Jackson Memorial Basketball Shootout. The all-day tournament, organized by the First Presbyterian church of Altadena, raised funds for a scholarship in the name of Jackson, a Muir High School athlete from Altadena who was shot to death in 2011.  Jackson’s murder remains unsolved.

Saturday, the Altadena Town Council election will take place from 9 AM to 1 PM.  It's a sad little election — of the eight seats, two have gone vacant, and the remainder are running unopposed candidates.

In what may be the most non-participatory town council vote in memory, the six candidates who ran without opposition garnered only 71 votes — and one will keep her seat without a single vote being cast.

Town council chair Sandra Thomas, who represents census tract 4603.02,  did not receive a single vote in Saturday’s election, according to election chair Eric Pierce.  (Thomas is currently hospitalized and could not even vote for herself).
