Just got a press release from the Sheriff's department (and thank you to the many folks who have emailed about this, or talked to us personally at breakfast @ Fox's this morning!): a sheriff's deputy shot a white male adult suspect in an incident at the 3000 block of Highview Ave. at about 8:30 last night.

Sketchy information coming in: Thursday night sometime before 9 PM, men wearing some kind of uniform invaded a home on the 3400 block of N. Fair Oaks, and got away with cash and some watches. Nobody's available @ sheriff right now, but we'll try to pursue this as we can today.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors presented a commendation to the Sheriff’s Support Group of Altadena for their years of service to the community for producing the free Summer Concerts in Farnsworth Park. The Feb. 28 award was accepted by the current Chair of SSGA, Robert Klomburg.

The second annual luncheon of Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development (MPYD) will be held on Sat., April 18, from 11 AM-1 PM in the Mediterranean Room of the Brookside Golf Club, 1133 Rosemont Avenue, Pasadena.
The theme of this year’s event is “Changing Lives Through Mentoring.” MPYD will recognize individual, community, corporate, and governmental supporters. Honorary Event Host is Congressman Adam Schiff. Information on MPYD and this event is available at www.mpyd.org.

An alert reader sent us a message about this incident this morning, and KABC News seems to be on top of it — a SoCal Edison truck plunged off Angeles Crest Highway just before 7 AM this morning. A 50 year old man was rescued and airlifted to the hospital with breathing trouble.

From PSN, ground was broken for a water cleanup plant at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. As were many rocketry research sites (such as the Rocketdyne Santa Susanna test site in the San Fernando Valley), the water around JPL is polluted with perchlorate. The water will be cleaned, disinfected, and put in the Pasadena water supply.

Altadena Sheriff Capt. Roosevelt Blow told the Altadena town council last night that the department is planning a "Gifts for Guns" exchange on April 25 at the Rite-Aid parking lot, 737 Altadena Dr.
Deputies will exchange a total of $10,000 in gift cards from various merchants for guns that are turned in by the public.

A large part of last night’s town council meeting was taken up by neighbors complaining of a long-standing problem: parties — some attended by as many as 200 people — that are held at a private home on 325 E. Calaveras St.
About 25-30 neighbors appeared to support complaints about the most recent house party, held last Sat., March 14. One neighbor who spoke at the meeting said that the party started at about 9 or 10 PM and went on until 1 or 2 AM,

We can tell this is student journalism because the writer uses far too many adjectives, even for a review, and has coined the word "jazzist." We used to do things like that.

The community center was packed tonight as the county planning department gave a presentation on a proposed Hillside Ordinance for Altadena, an attempt to prevent “Glendalization” of the hillsides.
There are two components to the ordinance, according to Emma Howard of the county planning department: the addition of a hillside management plan to the Altadena community plan, laying out hillside-specific issues, goals, policies, and implementation measures; and new language for the Altadena Community Standards District, setting regulations for hillside ares.

We’ve got whatever it is that’s going around, so we have to lie low today in our sick bed. However, some of our correspondents have alerted us to an MTA bus crash into Altadena Hardware this morning before 6 AM. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was injured.

The ever-reliable Contra Costa Times tells us that firefighters rescued two in a truck that overturned on the Angeles Forest Highway above Altadena this morning. Injuries apparently are minor.
