The Pasadena Police Department has put out a warning about a wave of burglaries between August 1 thru August 21 at several homes between lake Avenue and Martello Avenue, north of Orange Grove Boulevard.
According to a statement from the department, on one occasion two black males were seen. Both are between the ages of 20 and 30; one was 5’8”,

According to a Nixle alert, four to five black adult males, dressed in dark hoodies covering their faces, stole an undetermined amount of money from the store and fled on foot. The suspects were armed with small caliber handguns, and no employees were harmed in the incident.

We’ve had a peacock tragedy on Maiden Lane. Looks like mama and one chick were hit by a car, but two chicks are left. They are much too young to make it on their own. Rescue crews are working on recovering a hiker at around Inspiration Point. Fire crews have been deployed both at Chaney Trail and at the Cobb Estate for most of the afternoon.
Per the scanner (and scanner calls are always to be taken with a grain of salt), a request has been made to contact the coroner.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is reporting that the body recovered Sunday night near Inspiration Point was believed to be the victim of a fall into a ravine.
According to a press release, the body of the male adult was spotted by a hiker, who contacted authorities. The victim was located by crewmembers of the LASD’s Air 5 rescue helicopter at about 1:20 PM.

That chopper you hear is from a completed rescue around the Eaton Canyon area. According to the scanner, two were hoisted out, not injured, and they are being transported to Farnsworth Park and landing just east of the baseball diamond. More details as we get them.
UPDATE: Deputy on duty at Altadena Station confirms two uninjured “hoisted out of the canyon.”

For everyone who participated in the American Cancer Society’s Altadena Relay for Life, there will be a “Relay Wrap Party” on Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Altadena Ale & Wine House, 2329 N. Fair Oaks Avenue.
Running from 3-5 PM, it’s a potluck, so bring a favorite appetizer to share. Relay organizers will recognize individual fundraising efforts and the committee that put the event together.

Jeff Sedlik, who maintans the Altadena Neighborhood Watch Map at www.AltadenAlert.org, says the map is approaching 40,000 visitors. This makes it a good time to add your Neighborhood Watch to the map if it isn’t there already, and the Altadena Sheriff Station’s Neighborhood Watch database, which he also maintains.
The map and database contain important information to have to help monitor crime and in case of emergency.

The Los Angeles County Health officer has confirmed the first human death of West Nile Virus in Los Angeles County this year.
The victim was an older man from the South Bay with pre-existing health conditions who was hospitalized at time of death, according to a press release. While this is the first fatality,

A structure fire was called in at about 12:20 PM Saturday at 3515 McNally Ave. Community correspondents Gary Altadena and 10-year-old Savannah McCarthy were on the scene, and report that no one was hurt, but a female relative of the home’s occupants was there alone and had an asthma attack.

The organization New Economics for Women (NEW) is partnering with Parks After Dark (PAD) at Loma Alta Park during the summer to provide a series of child passenger safety workshops as well as offering inspection and installation of car seats.
A safety seat workshop will be held from 6-7 PM.

The California Highway Patrol as activated an Amber Alert for San Diego and Imperial counties in the abduction of two children.
According ot the highway patrol, the abduction occurred on Aug. 3 at 5 PM in the city of Boulevard in San Diego County. The suspect is James Lee DeMaggio, 40, possibly driving a 2013 blue Nissan Versa four door,

Legendary 60’s-70’s boomer artists Dave Crosby and Graham Nash will perform on Sunday, Aug. 25, in a benefit concert for Altadena’s FIve Acres at the Pasadena Playhouse.
General admission tickets are available for $150, with premium tickets in the $750-$500 range (VIP tickets at $1,000 each are sold out). There are also 100 tickets available to benefit the Pasadena Playhouse.
