Altadena artist Ngene Mwaura will show a collection of his new paintings on Wed., Sept. 25, at Sidewalk Café at Hen’s Teeth Square, 2057 N Los Robles Ave. (Los Robles and Woodbury Road).

The next meeting of the Altadena Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (ACONA) will be Sept. 24 at the Altadena Main Library, 600 E. Mariposa Street, from 7-8:30 PM.
Speakers will be Diane Marcussen, the new chair of the Altadena Town Council, and Kim Kenne, Pasadena Unified School District [PUSD] Board Member for District 1 in west Altadena.
ACONA members have long asked that the town council be more open and to responsive to issues they have in an interactive setting.

10:17 PM – A robbery occurred at Jack in the Box, 2305 N. Lake Avenue. The victim entered the business and began a conversation with a female. The suspect, male, Hispanic, 25-27 yrs, 5ft 9 ins., 160 lbs. , black hair, white shirt, blue jeans, entered the business and asked the victim why he was talking to his girlfriend.

On Saturday 09/21/13, we found a little white poodle mix dog wandering up and down the 500 block of W. Loma Alta Drivee. He looked anxious and was darting in and out of front yards and onto the street between parked cars. We brought him to the Sheriff’s Station and gave him to Deputy Daniel Paige. He said the would hold the dog for 24 hours (and give him something to eat).

The body recovered Sunday in the forest north of Altadena has been identified as Fox News reporter and producer Martin Burns, 56, according to industry sources.
Variety.com reported that it was Burns who fell into the ravine at Inspiration Point on Sunday, triggering an hours-long search and recovery effort from local rescue crews. A hiker found Burns’ body in a ravine near Inspiration Point,

An Altadena resident has reportedly been infected with the West Nile Virus, whichis blamed on a mosquito bite suffered while walking her dog on Braeburn Road about Aug. 10.
A message sent out by her husband to local newsgroups reads:
Walking our Ridgeback on the weekend of August 10 over along Braeburn, my wife ____ was bitten by a mosquito somewhere between Tanoble and Porter.

Two hikers were airlifted out of Eaton Canyon Friday afternoon by rescue crews, according to the Altadena Sheriff Station..
According to Dep. Williams at the Altadena Sheriff Station, one of the hikers was complaining of back problems. The pair were airlifted to Huntington Memorial Hospital in a rescue that concluded shortly after 3 PM today.

Firefighters are mopping up after a garage fire at 2291 El Sereno Friday night. Residents say there was a sound of an explosion from the garage. The home next door caught fire as well. More to come.

The Pacific Opera Project will perform Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado this coming weekend, Sept. 6-8, but with a Japanese pop twist.
The performance at Porticos Art Space (2033 E. Washington), inside St. James United Methodist Church, transports the opera from the days of Japanese royalty in silk kimonos to the neon-colored world of Harajuku, the modern mix of colors and styles that symbolize young people in modern Japan.

Hello Altadenans,
This handsome young rooster was found last week in Eaton Canyon with an older rooster pal (who is still at large.) Since it happens from time to time, we’re assuming the birds were dumped there.
Can anyone provide this beautiful bird with a good home? He’s extremely friendly and completely at ease with my two cats. Happily roams my yard looking for bugs. I’d love to find him a new home by the end of this week.

Rosa Johnson — a longtime active resident, graced with the name “Mrs. Altadena” — died Aug. 31, the day after her 103rd birthday.
Daugher Rosemarie Wallack of Irvine said that Johnson died peacefully in her own home, where she had lived since 1957.

Sheriff Support Group Summer Concert Series producer Robert Klomburg passed on this warning to us: Van Nixholme, whose All American Audio Visual provides the sound and light for the Farnsworth concert series as well as others around the area, said that next Saturday’s artist, Dean Colley, usually draws 2,000 people to a concert. Then he sent this note about Colley’s concert a couple of weeks ago in La Canada:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has released video of one of the Aug. 30 rescues from Eaton Canyon.
According to the sheriff's department, a man and a woman were trapped on the side of a cliff in Eaton Canyon near the first waterfall (a popular route for people trying to reach the dangerous Razorback trail to second waterfall).

Coco is a small, female, terrier-type dog with collar and tags (unless they’ve fallen off or been removed) who apparently got out of a car and away from her owner near Farnsworth Park late afternoon today. She could be anywhere in the vicinity of that park (hopefully not in Cobb Estate, but possible… if she followed a dog walker or crossed Lake Avenue).

The Altadena Sheriff Station has put out an alert about two burglars dressed as Edison employees who distracted their victim while a third entered the house.
According to an alert from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a residential burglary occurred on Aug. 12, 2013, at the 3100 block of Ewing Avenue. Suspect #1 identified himself as a Southern California Edison employees who was checking on power outages.
