A few pictures from readers about this week’s rains:

Pattie Foley-Munoz took this picture Monday of a small slide on the Sam Merrill Trail.

And John Heinsen uses an Android phone app to take a retro-looking picture of a rainbow, visible outside the Coffee Gallery yesterday during a break in the rain (click to enlarge).

Yesterday’s storm was a Grand Finale for the last series of storms (Pineapple Express?) that we’ve had. The low pressure system that swept through the area yesterday is now heading east over Arizona.
I got 4.25” of rain yesterday at my weather station here in Altadena and another 0.04” since midnight, and there is still a slight chance of a stray shower today.

Altadena author Miles Corwin was in the front row at the Interior Department yesterday when President Barack Obama signed the bill repealing the military’s “Don’t ask – don’t tell” policy, and told the story of Corwin’s father, whose life was saved in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge by his buddy — a soldier who happened to be homosexual.

Corwin’s sister Leni wrote Altadenablog that Obama’s speechwriter contacted Corwin to ask permission to use his 1993 LA TImes story about his father’s friendship with “Frank,”

Per what we said earlier, rain and thunder seems to increase the numbers of lost and found dogs.
Our own Gary Altadena writes:
Due to the thunderstorms yesterday our 10 year old catahoula ( dog ) escaped out the front window. Georgia is medium build. Brown, black and gray. Had no collar on at the time. Lost near Lincoln and Ventura Avenue. Any and all help would be highly appreciated.
