Altadena documentarian Jennifer Lee will screen her film, , “Feminist: Stories from Women’s Liberation” on Oct. 9 at 6:30 PM at the Flintridge Retreat Center, 236 W. Mountain Street #117, Pasadena.

The film is the result of 8 years of interviewing and editing. I made the film because a co-worker at Technicolor Studio whispered to me one day in 2004, “Are you a feminist?” I realized I couldn’t give her a pithy reason why I was a feminist because the stories of the women’s movement weren’t embedded in me. So, I decided to change that. I spent several years traveling the country (lots of red eye flights) and listened to these feminists tell me their stories. I interviewed famous feminists like Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan (I shot her last interview) and not-so-famous feminists like Ivy Bottini, Aileen Hernandez, Sonia Pressman Fuentes. My film covers the major events from 1963-1970.

The film won the 2013 “Best of the Fest” documentary at the Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival, and will be featured in a March 2014 Boston University conference on the Women’s Liberation Movement.  Lee is also screening the film at festivals, universities, and colleges around the country, and she was invited to screen the film at the Islamic International University in Islamabad, Pakistan.
