These construction impacts from a renewable, wind power project illustrate that no power source – not wind power, not roof-top solar, not biodiesel, or any other renewable – is without environmental impacts. The best way to reduce the environmental impacts of energy is to reduce energy use. It is also the least expensive.

It’s ugly, but sounds like they have done all they can to mitigate damage. I have been watching the guys dangling from the helicopters and am impressed at all the trouble they are going to, to avoid having people on the ground and/or doing ground clearance around and to/from each tower. I’m not loving the big trucks going up and down the street and the explosion noises are a little un-nerving, but I think it could have been much, much worse. But the silt could definitely be a problem if they don’t have a good plan in place. The contours of Millard Creek changed significantly after the Station Fire and subsequent flooding, so a plan put in place prior to that time to divert water, might not be effective anymore.
