Currently (around 3 PM) there’s some police activity in the area around Eliot Middle School. According to the watch deputy at the Altadena Sheriff Station, they’re looking for a deer that was spotted in the area.
UPDATE 4:30 PM: According to the sheriff’s station, the scene is clearing now: wildlife officers tranquilized the deer and took him away.
UPDATE: 8:45 PM: The Altadena Sheriff’s station sent out this update:
Altadena’s Eliot Middle School had a distinguished visitor today, a 12 point buck deer on Lake at the southwest corner of the school. School officials directed the children to exit on the opposite side of the school. Deputies responded and provided security until Fish and Wildlife arrived.
The deer was not harmed and was tranquilized (see photo by Sgt. E. Eftychou) and taken by Fish and Wildlife rangers back up into the San Gabriels without incident.

I was lunching at Amy’s and around 2:00 pm the stag (with a mighty large rack) was bee-lining down the center line of Lake avenue, going south and moving fast. The waiter at Amy’s called the sheriff. I can’t imagine what spooked the poor guy.
I wonder if that was the one I say bounding east on Palm from Lincoln to Olive on Friday. He may just be lost. I recall nubs, but not a rack, though, but I was so astounded I can’t claim to be a great witness.
Poor baby. I hope he’s safe.
heard deer got spooked or got chased out of cobb estate .it could been a dog etc .
If it was from the Cobb Estate, then it wasn’t the same guy I saw. Lonnie, what would make them come down so far? I’ve lived near Loma Alta Park for 23 years and never before saw a deer in that area.
You can drop him off at my house.
Been seeing quite a bit of wildlife during the day lately. Baby coyote was in my neighbor’s yard in the middle of the day…. looking like he belonged there behind the fence.
