They started off as a pack at 5 AM Saturday in Wrightwood, and came staggering into Altadena starting Sunday morning.
The runners of the 26th annual Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run challenged themselves with 100 miles of forest trails and some pretty severe hill climbing, all to make the finish line at Loma Alta Park. Runners this year numbered 172.
First one over the finish was Dominic Grossman, who came in at 12:06 AM Sunday. First female, and fourth overall, was Angela Shartel, who came in at 2:21 AM.
The two Altadena entrants also fared well. Diane Treister came in at 19th place at 7:25 this morning. Marisol Martinez came in 26th at 8:20.
Martinez said that she was fighting stomach problems, which have been severe enough that she had to drop out of the race a couple of years ago, but kept through it this year, her third race.
Treister said that her plans for the rest of the day were “eating and sleeping.”
Thanks for posting this, Tim. This event should get a lot more publicity than it does. These ordinary people (as old as 70 this year) did something amazing. I stopped by for a few minutes on Sunday morning and happened to see a 67 year old finish the 100 miles… his 27th consecutive race.
