The Los Angeles County Fire Department will leada mult-agency exercise on Friday morning at Angeles Crest Highway, practicing “over-the-cliff” rescue techniques.
The technical rescue exercise will be held off the Angeles Crest Highway in the Angeles National Forest. According to a press release from County firefighters, “the forest’s extremely steep terrain has been the location of a large number of technical rescue operations throughout the history of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.” The exercise will be a “over the side” high angle technical rescue. Last year, the county sheriff search and rescue teams and County firefighters were involved in several such rescue operations on the Angeles Crest Highway.
Among the agencies involved in the exercise will be the Altadena and Montrose search and rescue teams, Forest Service firefighters, and air operations, including the fire department’s FIrehawk and LA County Sheriff’s Air 5 Super Puma helicopters.
The exercise will take place at Angeles Crest Highway mile marker 30.16, from 9 AM-1 PM.
