Poetry corner: the bear truth

A smiling bear is very rare,
for they do concentrate.
They focus on the whiffs of food
and love to lick the plate.
But sometimes bears are more than that,
they have a secret wish.
Sometimes like Gentle Ben they crave
a life of movie bliss.
In fact I’m very sure of this,
see that smile—and focus!
And by the way, that bear’s a SHE;
I use no hocus pocus!
A movie made so long ago,
named SUNSET BOULEVARD!
Bear strikes that pose, which does recall
a movie star’s canard!
“I’m ready for my close-up now,”
star said to that De Mille.
Bear star is born, oh yes she is;
and smile is shot by Bill!
