A final two-day appeal by the Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy manged to put them over the top to purchase lower MIllard Canyon, preserving the popular hiking area “forever.”
In an email by conservancy director John Howell, the push for a finall $3.200 in donations by Nov. 30 met with success. The conservancy has spent the past several months attempting to raise $675,000 in order to purchase the canyon for preservation.
In his email, Howard said:
Here‘s what matters: Millard will be preserved and protected – forever.
What also matters is that we saved it by all pulling together. Thanks so much to all who helped, and for each and every thing you did to make it happen: for money contributed, hikes led and hikes attended, bird studies completed, plant lists compiled, amphibians identified, gatherings hosted and gatherings attended, photos taken, restoration planned, canyon cleanup begun, contacts made, cooperation extended, encouragement given.
Now we celebrate together, in spirit. Soon we’ll celebrate together, in person — stay tuned for an announcement of the Millard Celebration!
Powell also sent a list thanking those who contributed money toward Millard’s purchase and preservation, which we present after the jump.
