Everyone hiking with dogs at the Cobb Estate needs to be extremely vigilant right now, and keep dogs on leash, especially small dogs. A pair of disturbingly bold coyotes are claiming the property as territory, probably preparing to den. Coyotes normally avoid people and run from large dogs, however these two are exhibiting behavior indicating they have little fear of people. Today a 60 pound dog went after them, and rather than run, they circled the dog. Had people not been nearby to assist the owner, my guess is the dog would have been attacked. I know how tempting it is to let dogs run off leash up there, and I’m as guilty as anyone, but keep your dogs safe.
