The La Salle High School Visual and Performing Arts Department will be presenting William Shakespeare’s comedy, “Twelfth Night; or, What You Will,” opening Sunday, Oct. 30, at the school’s Linda M. Grindstead Theatre, 3880 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. in Pasadena. The production will be performed through Nov. 13.
“Twelfth Night” is Shakespeare’s uproarious tale of sexual disguise, mistaken identity, mischief, and true love. Giving the classic comedy an edgier vibe, director Jude Lucas has created a Steampunk costume and set design, mixing a Victorian style with a futuristic, industrial sensibility. As the department chairperson she must watch her budget, but she doesn’t scrimp on her students’ artistic experience.
The play, which has 14 characters and ensemble parts, will be performed by several different casts, allowing 38 students to act in one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies.
