The National Forest Service and the National Forest Foundation are floating a balloon to see if there is public interest in forming a Friends of the Angeles National Forest organization.
In a letter from District Ranger Michael J. McIntyre, there will be a series of three “sensing sessions” at the end of April to gauge interest: “During the course of each meeting, we will talk about the challenges the Angeles National Forest faces — particularly in light of the Station Fire — and how a Friends group could help. We’ll discuss what form such a group might take, what supportive activities it might take on, and the steps involved in creating the organization.”
There are other Friends organizations such as Friends of the Inyo and the San Bernardino National Forest Association. The Forest Service also has a web page telling how to form a Friends group.
The three meetings will be:
Tues., April 26, 6:30-8:30 PM at the Angeles National Forest Supervisor’s Office, 701 N. Santa Anita Ave., Arcadia.
Wed., April 27, 6:30-8:30 PM, Big Pines Information Center, Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2), Wrightwood.
Thurs., April 28, 6:30-8:30 Pm, San Gabriel Canyon Gateway Center, 1990 N. San Gabriel Road (Hwy 39), Azusa.
