Tomorrow (Monday) night, the Altadena Historical Society will present AHS volunteer Marc Striegel, Altadena resident, business owner and consultant, who will project newly digitized and catalogued files of Altadena history, and walk the audience through several of the collections and narratives surrounding them. He will explain methods used to scan, name, label, describe and caption photos, and demonstrate how researchers use the software.  Find out more about author Zane Grey, socialite Barbara Curtis Horton, the Brown brothers and other prominent Altadenans.

There will also be a silent auction of historical memorabilia of Altadena and Pasadena.  AHS President Jane Brackman tell us, “Like most museums and historical organizations we keep two or three copies of something.  When we acquire more we sell any extras at our annual silent auction.  The pamphlet Altadena: Then and Now was published in 1959.  The pamphlet Down Deodar Lane, was probably printed for the Christmas Tree Lane lighting event in 1933. And the Pasadena Pioneer Pictorial has lots of Pasadena photos with some Altadena shots.”

Other auction items include Jackie Robinson newspaper clippings, 1944 Eliot school senior yearbook, original photos of 1915 San Francisco state fair, complete disc library of EMI music publications from the 1980s, 1972 Pasadena City directory and many other items.

The program will be held at the Altadena Community Center,  730 E. Altadena Drive on Mon., Jan. 31.  Bidding begins at 7:00.  Program starts at 7:30. Auction winners will be announced after the program. Archives tour follows the program. All AHS programs are free and open to the public.
