Reader Chip Ossman is just giddy (well, that may not be the word) about his new appointment, and shares some thoughts:
I just received an email confirming I breathe, am able to email, and have promised that I am eligible to submit a Supplemental Application to serve on the "Citizen's Redistricting Committee" – of course, a lot of other people received the same email.
We now get to fill out the Supplemental Application. It, appropriately, asks a lot of prying questions, wants long answers, and will require a decent amount of time to thoughtfully respond. As the Committee to which we apply will be a huge commitment – no problem with using the application process as self-screening. However…
According to the website, there are … 77 Altadena residents eligible to submit the Supplemental Application. Wow! There are 25,908 tentatively eligible applicants, state wide. State population is roughly 37,000,000, so .07% representation, while Altadena population is represented (77/45,000) at .17% – more than double the state average! No surprise to most of us Altadenians.
Really fun, mind-numbing activity: click on www.wedrawthelines.ca.gov, then click through to list the Altadenians who have applied – anyone can add public comment to any applicant's name.
