Why do some, apparently including this website, insist on using the term “Obamacare?” He’s not writing the bills now being considered. And I’d like to see someone back up the claim the health insurance industry (and their right-wing pols) are NOT fomenting grassroots fear and anxiety… where do “death panels” come from?

Well, like it or not, “Obamacare” seems to be the shorthand name that has developed — we don’t necessarily agree with that, hence why we put it in quotes. (Is that insisting?)

As for the other, we learned in our college philosophy survey class (which included logic) that you can’t prove a negative — you can’t claim little green men are living on the moon, and then say “prove they’re not.” We don’t know if the insurance industry is fomenting anything or not — heard a lot of claims, don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility, but haven’t seen any proof. We DO find amusing that a supposedly “well-funded opposition” needs to resort to handwritten signs, and while the side that claims not to to be has better graphics. It just tells us that all the facts aren’t out, so we shouldn’t settle on a narrative just yet.

Besides, this is a geography story, not a health care story!

Most of us printed the signs on our own computers, got if off a web site. No one paid for it.
There is money to be made in opposing the health care plan of the president. Insurance companies have benefited from the status quo and will lose income if there is a public option in the health care legislation. They have a lot of money. Do you really think they aren’t doing everything they can to stop the pending legislation?

What I found most interesting at the town hall meeting were the portrayals of Obama as a Nazi. Hmmmm, so Obama believes in the racial superiority of the German people……….who knew?
