We got a note from Dr. Anthony McFarland, chair of Kingdom of God International, who is requesting that all Christian clergy leaders in Altadena partner and participate in a "Rally to Stop the Violence" on Fri., May 15, at the corner of Altadena Dr. and Fair Oaks from 5-7 PM. The note says:
We are asking you to have 2 to 3 members from your church (men if possible) to participate in this rally on Friday. We will have banners and fliers requesting people to speak up and for this city to turn to God! The Sheriffs Department is extremely appreciative of this effort that will be taken on this Friday, May 15th 2009. Why get involved? Let’s remember what the Bible says in Ps. 82: 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Dr. McFarland is requesting that participants "wear T-shirts from your church, white t-shirt or a T-shirt with Christian saying on it!"
For more information or to RSVP: 626-432-9502.

Just a quick reminder to everyone out there that violence and crime affects all of us – not just the Christian community – and we should all stand against it together.
There are plenty of us in Altadena who are just as troubled by the violence and who would like to be part of the movement to oppose it, but who are Jewish, Moslem, other faiths, or non-believers.
We should be standing together as a community: all of us who care about justice and a safe neighborhood. I do appreciate what you are doing with this rally, but it would be even better if it were more inclusive of the entire community.
Thanks for listening, and all the best
Evan

I think Dr. McFarland is going with his first reflex, and would welcome others to the rally. Go for it. I’ll try to be there with my Quaker shirt….

I agree. Just because I am an atheist I cant participate? Sad. I will anyway because I knew this boy. I will because I dont want anything like this to happen again. I will because I want to know my neighbors and show them that I will watch out for them and hope they can put aside religion and do the same for everyone, Jew, Muslim, Gay, black, white, Mexican, whatever.
Making this rally exclusive to the Christian community does not bring the community together. Not everyone in Altadena is a Christian.
