Hi Tim,
I’ve had one commenter and an email stating that this building once housed a 5 and dime (even into the early 1960’s). If that’s the case, Altadena Hardware (which was founded in the 1920’s) may have moved into the east end of the store after the 5 and dime left. The sign may say “Altadena 5 & 10 Cent Dept. Store.” Comments from those who know (hey, even from those who don’t) are always welcome on the blog.
