Deputy Greg Gabriel of the Altadena Sheriff Station has another gig: he’s the driver for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children Rose Parade float. He shared these pictures with us:
Here are some pictures of the Rose Parade from the inside looking out. A different perspective on the parade. Long two days (and a cold night), but lots of fun. No power steering, seat belts, or GPS. Just a small view port and a pink line down Colorado Boulevard to follow. My third year driving. Look forward to 2015.
Our float (won the “Tournament Volunteer’s Trophy” for best floral design of parade theme under 35 feet in length. Third year in a row the Shrine float has won an honor.
More after the jump.
1. The cockpit inside the float: hydraulic controls and fuzzy dice.
2. Approaching “Camera Corner” at Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard.
3. Inside view of the spectators.
4. Judging time before the parade
5. North on Sierra Madre Boulevard.
6. Post-parade lineup.
Great article! I am compleating 32 years in the Tournament of Roses and it still amazes me how it all comes together with all the various committees and volunteers bringing it every year.! The Float Drivers are essential to the success of the Parade and get little credit for what they do! They are skilled and dedicated safe drivers! Thanks to all that participate in this magnificent endeavor!
