A special exhibit of large format (11×17), high resolution photographs from the Altadena Historical Society archives will be on display beginning Saturday, November 23, from 2-7 PM as part Webster’s Community Pharmacy Annual Holiday Open House.

In addition to photos of Altadena’s airfield (1919), Echo Mountain in the snow (1900’s) and our famous poppy fields as they looked at the corner of Woodbury and Lake in 1895, we are featuring five rare aerial views of Altadena, from 1906 through the late 1930s including:
- Intersection of Woodbury and Lake looking north towards mountains, early 1930s, includes Scripps Home
- Intersection of Lake and Altadena Drive, looking west as far as Porter Street, about 1920, includes very rare images of houses that were torn down in the 1950s to make way for what is now the Rite Aid complex
- 1906 photograph of Altadena, taken From Mt. Wilson Toll Road, looking east, encompasses land as far south as New York and north to Altadena Drive, and as far west as Porter Road.
- West Altadena aerial photo taken late 30s or early 40s, features farms as they appear from the intersection of North Windsor and Mountain View Road, looking east as far as Lincoln Avenue, includes rare view of Five Acres Boys & Girls Society
- Taken from trail to Echo Mountain, early 1920s photo featuring the soon to be developed Poppyfields tract, includes good view of railroad tracks heading towards Rubio Canyon.
Join us at the Pharmacy’s annual holiday open house to see what your neighborhood looked like 85 years ago. We’ll also be selling Michele Zack’s book, Altadena: Between Wilderness and City, pre-wrapped for holiday gift giving. Websters is at the corner of N. Lake and Mariposa.

I’m so excited for this! My son’s 3rd grade class at Altadena Elementary is learning about “Your Community Over Time” and I hope to arrange for them to take a walking field trip to see the exhibit.
