Saint Mark’s Will “Hike for Haiti” to Henniger on Saturday, May 2

Haiti_-_2013_140_web

When Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church holds its annual “Hike for Haiti” on Saturday, May 2, hikers will walk from the Eaton Canyon Nature Center to Henniger Flats. The distance is symbolic and significant. It’s approximately the same journey distance that students at Saint Marguerite School in Haiti must travel each day to get to school.

The hiking fundraiser will benefit those students at Saint Marguerite by providing a daily hot lunches to the school’s 150 students — as the Altadena congregation has done since 2012.

Braving this distance and terrain is a great reminder of how much these students value their education and how important local efforts to support them really are.

For every 25¢ raised, one child’s hot lunch will be provided, organizers say, noting that this hot lunch is the only meal a Saint Marguerite’s student will eat that day.

Organizer say you must signup by April 30. That day, be prepared and bring water, sunscreen, a hat, and more water. There is a fountain available for refills at the park, but you don’t want to run out of water on the trail.

Post-hike pancakes will be waiting for your back at the Saint Mark’s Community Hall where we will reel in our accomplishment and hear from the Haiti Team Delegates about their recent trip to Haiti and how our efforts here are impacting the community of La Tournelle.

The event starts at 7:00 a.m. on May 2 with check-in at Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 North Altadena Drive, Pasadena. The hike will begin at 7:30 a.m. sharp.
