Historical Society will preserve and hold AltadenaPoint archives

The full AltadenaPoint archive — all posts,  photos, video links, and reader comments — will be be preserved in an archive by the Altadena Historical Society, to be accessible online soon at the AHS website.

AHS President Jane Brackman announced on the society’s blog and in a letter to members:

For over seven and a half years, the altadenablog and its successor AltadenaPoint have documented the news and views of Altadena and its residents. So the announcement that the digital newspaper was closing on April 10, 2015 filled us with regret. While we will miss the daily posts, there is a silver lining. Editor and owner Tim Rutt has licensed his blogs to AHS for the public to access. All past posts of altadenablog and AltadenaPoint will be available soon on the AHS website. We are honored to be the recipients of this important  documentation of 21st century Altadena. The sites will join the other news sources archived by AHS going back as far as 1929.

The archive will include the altadenablog and AltadenaPoint pages in their original formats, but without advertising.  They will be searchable and include all comments, which particularly were a major part of Station Fire coverage.

The technical work will be done by Daniel and Brenda Harlow of Altadena-based Harlow Technologies.

Brackman said that AHS is looking to raise $800 to cover the expenses of the archive, which will include DVD archives as well as the online site.

To make a donation, write “blog donation” on the message line and send your check to AHS, 730 E. Altadena Dr., Altadena CA 91001.
